Swimming, fishing, pitching horseshoes, drinking cold beer at the old cotton mill in Roaring River. Coy Moore was the owner at the time. A lot of great memories. During the summer on Sundays they would baptized folks there. We would always show respect and put our beer away until they left. lol😂

When I was a kid, there was this HUGE scare about satan worshippers kidnapping blond hair blue eyed children to sacrifice them
Teachers had to walk us to the bus, our parents kept us locked in the house, and they wouldn't even let us go out on Halloween!
Turns out it was all just a rumor

I don't know if this is really in the spirit of the game, but...
Anyone remember Ken's Waterslides? We spent a LOT of money at that place!!
I remember, they would turn the water off on the waterslide at exactly 60 minutes! You would be going down the slide and suddenly it's dry! Was it really THAT much to ask for them to come out and just tell you that your time's up?

The year was 2001.
Melissa and I were living in the most miserable city in the US (Sarasota, FL), and missing our home. That's when we discovered that there was literally nothing about Wilkes available online!
In a county with over 5,000 businesses and no real web design firm, we decided to move back home and launch a web design and business consulting firm. It started out as Carlton Consulting.
During our first year, I quickly realized that none of the businesses had any real idea of what all could be done with programming, so I came up with an idea of creating a website that would show a few ideas of what I could do, as well as help people that were interested in the county to know what was happening.
Yada yada yada, GoWilkes was launched in October 2002 Putting that in perspective: Twitter launched in 2006, YouTube in 2005, Facebook and Yelp both in 2004, MySpace in 2003, and Friendster (the first real social media) went live in 2003! We predate all of them
Next year, we will be celebrating 20 years!

A couple weeks later, that same neighbor lady saved my life on account of I put a wooden game piece up my nose and it just stuck there. She was so mad! I was like, "Help! I can't breath!" And she was like! Go home already!"

Oh goodness! I was a child and only saw toy guns. The reason we were in the back yard was the boys were playing war in the garage attic. We had escaped their clutches and pretended we were princess escaped slaves. Creepy childhood, but there I was. The neighbor lady came out the side kitchen door and told us to go home on account that the president was killed.
