The NCWRC needs to come up with something the hunters could feed the deer to stop disease. I'm sure the hunters would be glad to put it in there feed. Thanks

You don't think scientist haven't looked as this disease has been common out west for year. This is the deer version of mad cow disease and CJD in humans there is no cure or treatment as of yet

underdog2 I don't really know what the cost to join would be. It usually depends on several things, property cost/lease, location and how much the club is willing to invest in upkeep, usually bush hogging, food plot planting/size and corn for baiting cost. I had one group that bought almost $3000.00 of corn each season.

JT i have no problem with that, yet i let two guys hunt for years one on acreage in front of house and one in back side land.. Problem was i told them NO baiting in season and they could put up all the cameras they wanted... Well, they always stopped to show me their kill which was 99% of the time a Buck/trophy whatever.. So, i caught one Baiting about Two weeks prior to opening season and suspected the other was doing the same and never let them hunt anymore.. Being said, taking only the Bucks is not going to lower the over all population that much it just makes the Does have their Babies at about anytime of year, just not enough Bucks to get around but they eventually will...... But what do i know????

Joseph T you are exactly right. But the commission has not made a final rule on baiting in NC and that will be sometime in mid 2023. I talked with a district Captain of the NCWRC and this is what he told me. I talked with a guy today that I thought was really up on this type of thing and he thought that they had already stopped baiting for this season. If you read my original post I stated that I sell ear corm, some to livestock farmers but mostly deer hunters. My corn business has been picking up every year and I leased additional property, put chicken litter on it at a ridiculous price and didn't plant it. I also talked with a store owner on 21 that sells shelled corn and he didn't know that baiting was not stopped, at least for this season. His sales had dropped over 60% in one month.

How much does it cost to join one of these big hunting clubs?

MarieLaveau I understand what you are saying. I hunted in the 60's and 70's with limited seasons, day pack and no stand, walked and hunted from daylight to dark. Other people actually would come and stay near the Game Lands, stay with family or with permission on peoples private land. Now there are so many people/hunters and access is limited makes it hard to do. Today Hunt Clubs (mostly baiting, large food plots) lease large tracts of land and try to keep all the deer on that property. The guy that can't afford to buy in and only has a small area to get his deer must try to lure a few his way. Getting game on the table is not what is used to be!

IMO Baiting Deer or any wildlife in Hunting season is NOT hunting period.. If one desires to feed them in early Spring or Summer months is fine, just to fatten them up so to say......

Where did you hear about this?

Last I heard they said that no more had been found so everything was back to normal

Because of one case of CDW found in Yadkin County a moratorium on baiting deer will start January 1, 2023. The Wildlife Service will be holding special meetings and taking comments on this issue. Because of lack of access or not having enough time to hunt this will greatly reduce the amount of deer removed. The resulting overpopulation will be causing more auto collisions also CWD and other diseases to become much more prevalent.

In the last few years we have had a couple of outbreaks of hemorrhagic disease that was really bad in spots and if you where out and saw that destructive disease you know how bad it can be.

FYI: I do raise ear corn for sale to deer hunters and at this time I do have a good looking field of corn. I did have another 5 acre field that I was going to plant, leased and fertilized it, but decided against planting because of a lot of hunters thinking that baiting has already been stopped by the NCWRC. I have talked with one of the NCWRC officials and January 1 2023 is the cutoff date for now.

PS,
I will discuss this issue but will not argue about it!
