NC declares bounty on Bradford pear trees

Posted 6:43 pm, 03/21/2022

Ok, a silly question... why are they legal to plant in the first place. Just another example of how most of our laws are either stupid, missing the point entirely, or protect nothing. This must be why politicians usually get their start as lawyers lol...

I remember the outrage, fake and otherwise, when the grounds crew removed them at the Walker Center @ WCC.

ODD is right! I also love the fragrance of apple blossoms.

Plant fruit trees! They bloom, have nice foliage and bear delicious rewards!

The Bradford pear tree is an ornamental commonly planted in North Carolina. Sure, it has pretty blossoms, but it's also structurally weak, stinky, and harmful to our native ecosystems! The Bradford pear tree can escape into our natural forests and cross to become the invasive Callery pear.
When you cut down your Bradford pear trees, we'll give you up to five free native trees to replace them with! Just attend our event on April 23, 2022 in Greensboro, NC and pick up your native trees.
